PEOPLE, 1998, VIDEO INSTALLATION

"People" works with simultaneous streams of continuous motion which are interrupted only by the activities of the viewer. Various people walk across a stationary video shot that is projected so the people within it are life-size. With the use of a trackball set up on a stand, the viewers are able to control the people within the projection. As a viewer rolls over a particular person within the projection that person freezes and only a reflection of them (semi-transparent, ghost-like image with dark edges) along with the other people in the scene continue to walk across the scope of the camera.

Thus "People" has a life of its own, an organic freeness about it that becomes more complete with the added dimension of the user's choice.
