SKIN, 2008, VIDEO INSTALLATION

"Skin" is a projected video installation displayed in a dark space. The image was created by scanning sections of different peoples skin. Attention was paid to using various kinds of textures and complexions. Thus the image created has within it discrete elements but through the merging of the areas stands together as a whole.

"Skin" is an interactive installation displayed in a dark room using three identical monitors. With a trackball the user is able to scroll across a large 8’ x 4’ image. The viewers can move in any direction they wish as they explore the topographic-like area. The image wraps around the edges flowing seemlessly across the space created by the three monitors. The viewers minds fill in the sections between the monitors.

With this wrapping around and the engulfing of the viewer in the space the inside and outside of the system created by the work is blurred. Interactivity further adds to this blurring by making the user an intricate part of the piece.
